We’re eagerly anticipating the release of LEGO F1 Collectible Race Cars on May 1 and we can confirm the blind box packaging again includes scannable codes.
Review copies of 71049 were sent out by the LEGO Group this week and that means we’ve seen the scannable codes with our own eyes.
We’ve also added the codes to Brick Search’s database, so if these are the same codes that 71049 has when it hits the shelves, the boxes will be scannable from day one.
In past years, though, review copies have had different codes than the retail versions, so this remains to be seen. But we’ll keep looking for more codes; we’re old hands at this now, after all.
Scannable codes were introduced with Series 25 of the Collectible Minifigures theme in early 2024 and have been present on each theme since.
F1 Collectible Race Cars are being released in a slot usually reserved for something from the Collectible Minifigures theme but are specifically being referred to by the LEGO Group as Collectibles – because this time, there is no minifigure.

Instead there are 12 brick-built cars to collect, 10 branded in the style of Formula 1 teams including Ferrari, Red Bull and Williams and two more – one more generically branded as Formula 1 and one for the F1 Academy, an all-female lower-level racing championship.
So while the contents of the blind boxes has changed, the crucial feature on the outside of the packaging remains: the bases of the boxes have scannable data matrix codes on them. That means Brick Search’s minifigure box code scanner will again be able to tell you what’s inside, so you can make sure you’re only buying the Collectible Race Cars you want.
